huru has been designed specifically to accomodate less technically able users.

huru is 'voice first', meaning most interactions can happen intuitively, in a single step.

The huru system can be managed almost completely remotely. A family member can do setup, configuration and if they wish to, initiate all activities, events, calls and content. This can be critical for users who are less technically able, or not yet comfortable using technology.

Remote Control

huru works on smart phones, amazon smart screens and even your TV. We use the amazon system (echo show 5,8,10 and Fire TV Cube). In future we will be including google smart screens and other Android TVs.

A little like a digital dining room table, a safe, secure, inclusive place to catchup, help eachother out and find purpose.


The circle ensures your security, privacy and control of personal data. Only people who you directly invite can join your ‘circle’.

You can decide what privileges each circle member has. This can be especially helpful if the key person or close family would like to involve other family, friends, carers, doctors, nurses or other professionals in the network.

You can add or remove circle members, or adjust their permissions at any time, right from the app.

  • The principle user, has access to all of the cognitive wellbeing content, games, activites and entertainment.

  • Send and receive messages from everyone in the circle (messages can only be sent between individuals already within the circle, this is to ensure privacy and simplify the interface).

  • Call (voice or video) anyone in their circle.

  • View and add files in the files area.

  • Complete advanced brain health assessment and receive ongoing guidance on cognitive health.

  • Complete wellness Check-in’s, Check-ins are prompted  'how are you doing' questions that can be personalised by the super user.

  • Other circle members can receive 'read receipts' when the key person completes certain activities or interacts with their device e.g. when a message is played or a reminder is received.

  • The key person can use the widest range of interfaces, amazon echo show (5, 8, 10) or amazon Fire TV Cube are recommended to access all functionality. A smartphone can be used for messaging, check-in and accessing files.

Regular 'check-in'

huru enables a daily 'check-in', asking two wellness questions. Updates are provided to family members through the app. Check-ins can be fully personalised with voice over or video from family members making it a truly personal 'how are you doing?' experience.

Assistance for daily living

Whether medication reminders, or support with the bills or shopping, huru is there to support with reminders and scheduling. Everything can be organised by a family member, directly from the app.

News, Weather and Entertainment

Scheduled and on-demand.
Experience audio books, music, Netflix, weather and your favourite news provider.

Guided Reminiscence Experience

A huru concept. The huru reminiscence experience may halt cognitive decline among users with Mild Cognitive Impairment.

Privacy and security

Is my data secure?

We use the same security and encryption protocols as any provider managing personal health data. (HIPPA level). We will only use your data it to provide you with the huru service. Where personal data is collected in the running of the huru service, we anonymise as soon as practically possible, so only the most necessary information (such as your contact and billing details) remain traceable back to you. Is it private?

YES. This is a core part of the huru system, all users will need to login to the app, and only those in your circle will have access to the messages and other content shared.

You can only be added to circles by the super users in that circle, and no one can request access or send messages unless they are already in your circle.

I have heard that smart home devices can be insecure, should I be worried about installing this in the home of my vulnerable relative?

The huru system uses the latest security key and encryption technology. With all smart home systems users should have a strong password for their wifi and a different password for any products or account associated with the network. Never use default usernames or passwords.

I am concerned about using the amazon echo system, does it listen to me? how does that deal with my personal data?

Setup and how to use the product

Does it work on a smart speaker without a screen?

At the moment we do not support smart speakers which do not have a screen. A big part of the experience is having images displayed.

Do I have to have a smart speaker, echo or other to use it?

Using the huru app only, users can message, manage accounts and shedule events. To access all of the other features an echo device e.g. receiving content, an echo device with built in screen is required. e.g. echo 5, echo 8, echo 10 or echo 15.

Does it work with a Google home hub?

At the moment no, but we plan to include these devices in the near future, if you would like to be notified when this launch happens please drop an email to with the subject Google home hub.

Do I need a computer to use it?

No. To use the App you will need a mobile phone that supports either the Apple or Android operating systems, to use the skill, you will need an amazon echo (echo 5, echo 8, echo 10 or echo 15).

Do I need an amazon account?

An amazon account will be needed when setting up the echo device. This is a free account, more details can be found here

How does it work?

huru helps to connect families to support their older relatives to live independently. Centered around the 'key person' (usually an older relative using an echo show 5, 8, 10 or fire TV cube device), messages, calendar events and check-ins can be shared and collaborated on across the echo device and the mobile phones of the family members using the huru app.

Does my loved one need wifi?

Yes, if you need some help with setting up your loved one’s wifi please message and we will happily connect you with a local provider.

Which echo devices does it work with?

We have created a beautiful interface (called a skill) that works seamlessly with the echo devices that have a built in screen (echo, 5, 8, 10).

What if my older relative doesn’t do well with technology?

Then this is the perfect platform for them. They can interact with the echo intuitively using voice or touch or you can send notifications with no interaction at all on their side (this can be really helpful for dementia or memory loss users).

What if my older relative already has a phone?

They can continue to use their existing phone, or use the echo, or both. It’s up to them. We recommend the echo as it will give the richest experience. Some users enjoy using both app and echo depending on the task or their location

Managing circles

How do I create a circle?

Simply download the app and follow the setup steps to create a new circle.

How many people can be in a circle?

There is no limit. Theoretically you could add all your family, friends and anyone else. But our advice is to keep things small and personal

Do all members of the circle need an amazon account?

No, only the Loved one if using the Echo Show is required to have an Amazon account. All other circle members simply use the app to stay engaged.

Does the Host Member control who is in the circle?

No and yes. Any member of a community can invite others to be part of the community, but the Host Member and loved one may remove members from a community.

Can I be in more than one circle?

Yes! Members can be in an unlimited number of circles, as long as they are invited.
